Sonics to take part in all-star celebration
Major League Baseball's mid-season celebration will include a demonstration of beep baseball presented by the Wichita Sonics.
Fan Fest is a week-long celebration of the national pastime organized by MLB. The Kansas City Royals are the host for the 2012 all-star game. Beep baseball is a form of baseball with rules adapted for blind players. As the closest beep baseball team to Kansas City, the Sonics will represent the sport.
"We're honored to be a part of this special event," said Wichita coach Kevin Burton. "We want to salute the Royals and Major League Baseball and at the same time spread the word about our version of baseball."
Fan Fest events will be held at the Kansas City Convention Center, 301 W. 13th St. in Kansas City. The beep baseball demonstration will be from 4 to 4:30 Sunday afternoon.
